Miller-Motte College was named Business of the Year. The for-profit educational center has made a huge mark on the community in a short time.
"We are proud of the work of Miller Motte College," said Chamber President & CEO Doug Peters, "and are grateful for their continued investment and work in our community."
Miller-Motte beat out two other strong finalists for the award, K3, Enterprises and Construction Systems Inc.
"To be nominated for this coveted award is, in and of itself, a tremendous honor," Peters said. "For the three local companies, K3 Enterprises, Construction Systems, Inc. and Miller Motte College to receive nominations is outstanding, and each of the three were worthy recipients."
The Realtor Cup, presented by the Fayetteville Regional Association of REALTORS, this year went to Ron Matthews with Family Foods-Taco Bell. The award is designed to honor an individual who goes above and beyond to impact not only the business community, but the social and cultural community as well.
"What I've learned about this community is that there are a lot of truly loving and caring people," Matthews said in accepting his award. "And there are a lot of really sneaky people. You guys got me good here."
The Athena Award, given annually to an individual who excells at advancing the opportunities for women in the business community, was award to Dineen Morton with Bayada Home Health.
"I'm so proud to be accepting this award and so thankful to the community I'm blessed to be a part of," Morton said. "There aren't enough words to express my gratitude."
Morton's inspiring story will be featured in the next issue of CityView Magazine.
The Chairman's Award, presented typically to a member of the Chamber's Board of Directors that goes above and beyond the call of duty, this year was awarded to Steve Mannell.
"This year's recipient epitomizes a high-achieving volunteer in the organization, and one that continues to make an indelible impression on those who he touches through his work," Peters said. "Steve Mannell of Strategic Solutions Unlimited has made remarkable progress and has exhibited tremendous leadership in helping the Chamber organization and the community to establish an angel investor initiative to support the growth of small and emerging companies in our region."
The Leadership Fayetteville Alumni award is given to a past participant in the Leadership Fayetteville program, who has gone on to help make the program successful for current and future participants. This year's award went to Carolyn Justice-Hinson.
"Carolyn has been a constant supporter of the alumni program since its inception and has participated as a volunteer with the regular program for its government day since 'graduating' from the program herself," said Todd Lyden, Leadership Fayetteville program director. "We're thankful for her continued support of the program."
The award for Fayetteville Young Professional of the year went to Jason Poole. He was nominated along side Michele Macumber and Ben Chambers.
The awards featured a red, white and blue All-America City theme, as we paid tribute to the honor bestowed upon Fayetteville in 2011. Mayor Tony Chavonne spoke about the business contributions to that award and how proud he is of the growth in our community.
